Features of Tsuzure Weaving

Tsuzure weaving has elements of drawings or paintings in it.
To make patterns, we pick up some warp threads, and insert weft threads. We weave as if drawing a picture with threads.

With or without design patterns, weavers can draw what they like freely. This is one of the attractive points of Tsuzure weaving, I think.
Even any complicated patterns can be woven as long as taking a time.
But execution of the work is strongly influenced by weaver's skill, sensibility and expressiveness since textile has very simple structure.

We mainly weave for obi, but we can make tapestry and other things.
In Edo era, there were wallets and accessory pouches of tsuzure weaving.
So, depending on ideas, we can create wide variety of things from practical items to artistic works, using tsuzure weaving.
Tsuzure weaving is not just a weaving. It has huge potential.

Our Way of Thinking

"To create obi which makes you all happy"
"To create obi which is fun to watch, fun to use, and makes you feel like wearing kinomo."
We think that those are happy things for not only our customers, but us who are weavers.

Kodama Schicen's Style

"To make three-dimensional and artistic obi"
I thought of this theme, inspiring from Mr. Kubota when I listened to his lecture in 1984.

Works from this theme
"SUNSET"
"SUMIRE"
"ANDESU"
"GETSUEI"
"MIYABI"
"RAKUJITSU"
I'll keep this theme in mind, and work on tsuzure weaving.
